Examine instances where theory is used to guide the development of new knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practice. (PO #6).
Grand theories are more abstract or general in nature and middle-range theories that are more specific in nature. What relationship(s) do you find between grand nursing theories and clinical practice? Provide one example that uses a specific grand theory to support your views.

In our readings we have found middle range nursing theories to be less abstract than grand theories. The decrease in abstraction of the middle-range nursing theory lends itself to the development of a hypothesis or scientific testing. With this in mind, we can imagine that middle-range nursing theories could more easily demonstrate a relationship to evidence-based practice. An example of a middle-range theory is Swanson’s theory of caring. This theory assists nurses in the process for research studies (McEwen & Wllis, 2011). Evidenced-based practice (EBP) links evidence to clinical practice. EBP incorporates research into clinical practice.
